Cheetahs became extinct in India more than 70 years ago. They were a different subspecies from the south African Cheetahs, but it is thought that the African cats could survive in India.  So project Cheetah is going to send cats to India. This will happen over a number of years. They will be introduced to India's Kuna National Park. The park has protected areas to release introduced animals.
It is hoped the introduced Cheetahs will help the area maintain biodiversity.

Hopefully this works. Bringing in animals from other locations has had some good successes. Swans from Alaska were brought to Ontario and released. Our swans went extinct many years ago. They are trumpeter swans like the ones we had, but they don't know how to migrate. Still they have thrived and multiplied.
We can hope the cheetahs introduced to India will do the same.
