The Farallon Islands are just off of California in the San Francisco area. The islands are home to many species of wildlife. They are also home to mice that humans introduced. They have been debating for years, but they are now determined to drop thousands of pounds of rodent poison on the islands. They will be dropped by helicopter so there is little control over where they will land. There is no way to protect the non target animals from the poison.

This is an insane plan. The poison will go everywhere and toxify the whole area. Much of the poison will end up in the ocean and be eaten by sea creatures.
Everything that eats those creatures will be poisoned. Even whales just migrating though the area could be poisoned. Any seafood that people in the area eat, could be toxic. Birds that get poisoned could be miles away when they die and are eaten by other creatures. This could spread and poison a large area. There is no way to control it once the poison is dropped.
There is also no guarantee that it will solve the mouse problem.
