Many fires are burning in Canada right now, from coat to coast. Humans can be evacuated, but animals are no so lucky.
Birds that are nesting might survive, but their nest won't. Some animals can flee, but if the fire is fast moving, it might not be enough.
After the fire, the land is very different. It can be unsuitable for some species.

Some habitats may be permanently changed or at least changed for many years to come.

This will effect some species worse than others. Some species could be lost to an area.

How bad will the impact of the fires be? We just don't know yet. They are still burning out of control right across the country.
We may never know how many animal lives were lost. There would be no trace of insects caught in the fires. Animals that die later because of their exposure to heavy smoke are victims of the fires, but we might not realize it.

What is the effect of catastrophic climate change? We are seeing it now.

A big thank-you to all the firefighters from around the world who have come to help. You are needed and we are grateful.
It's terrible what fire does to the wildlife,it was heartbreaking in Australia when it happened I really feel for Canada.
It is heart breaking what fire does to wildlife. Australia lost so much.
We may never know how many animals were lost here. The forest may not come back for many years in some areas, if it ever comes back.
Ontario has had some rain so at least the smoke is not as bad, but it hasn't stopped the fires.
It seems like one country after another is on fire. It could go on all summer here. Then it will be somewhere else on fire.
