The Scottish Wildcat has declined in numbers very badly. Human interference is part of it. There is also a problem of hybridization with domestic cats.
The Royal Zoological Society of ScotlandĀ  has plans to release 60 catsĀ  over the next three years. Twenty cats are being released now in secret locations.
Efforts have been made to control the domestic cat populations in the areas. Cats are being vaccinated and neutered so they cannot breed with the Scottish Wildcats.
The released cats are being tracked so they can be monitored to see how well they survive.

The Scottish Wildcats are so beautiful. It would be very sad if they were lost.
Without this much intervention they have little chance of surviving.
We just have to wait and see how well the released cats adapt. Ideally they will settle in and start producing their own kittens.
