We all know that pets are beneficial to seniors. This article lists the reasons why this is true.

I think the need to care for someone else other than oneself and to need to keep routines is probably one of the greatest benefit of a senior having a pet.
The pet also takes the focus away from physical issues. A pet brings of an element of spontaneity. You never really know what they might do.
It is not surprising that having a pet can improve ones health. This is especially important for seniors. With all this evidence we should encourage and even help seniors to have pets.
