People had minutes to load their animals and flee the flames in Kelona, BC.
A family loaded their animals to take them to safety, but their two pigs would not cooperate. In the end they had to go and leave them.
They feared the worst, but word came back to them that Poomba the Pig had survived and was being fed granola bars and apples by the firefighters.
Somehow she survived. Sadly, Miss Wilbur was lost. Her body was found on Monday.
Poomba is a symbol of survival and hope in the midst of devastation.

It is always amazing how an animal will survive total destruction like that.
I can't even imagine what it was like for her. She survived, she is in good spirits and she will give a lot of hope to her people and the others around them.
