The Companions for Change Pet Adoption and Wellness Center is now officially open in North Bay. The North Bay and District Humane Society is very happy about it. It is a larger more suitable space that will allow them to take in more animals. They already service the northern communities that have few resources. They transfer in dogs from all across the region. They take in 1500-1800 animals a year.  The number of dogs is up because of the pet trend during the pandemic. Backyard breeders rushed to produce puppies that no one wants now. People are bringing in whole litters of puppies and even pregnant dogs.
In order to combat the problem spaying and neutering is included in the adoption fee.

The timing couldn't be better. There is so much need for animal care in the remote areas. This shelter is in a position to really help with the pet over population problem. They can help people spay and neuter their pets and they can  transfer strays from areas that are  overwhelmed.
The future for northern pets just got a whole lot brighter.
