A farmer in Oregon has turned 70 acres of his 400 acre farm into a wetland. This solves the problem of pollution from farm runoff. The wetland cleans the water before it reaches the lake. It controls flooding. More importantly, it provides a habitat for birds, turtles, fish and a wide variety of wetland plants.
Roughly 80% of the world's wetlands have disappeared. Anything that brings back a wetland is a step in the right direction.

This farm is part of a bigger movement to restore wetlands. Wetlands can help mitigate the effects of climate change.
Wetlands control flooding and prevent the land from drying out. Wetlands have the effect of stabilizing an area. Increasing biodiversity is a valuable side effect of having a wetland.
One farm won't have much effect on the big picture of climate change, but a lot of restored wetlands will have a collective good effect.
There are lots of things we can do to help ourselves and the planet. Wetland restoration is an important step.
