It has been years in the planning and building and now it is finally open. Calgary Zoo has opened a Wild Canada section.
The polar bears have a two acre enclosure built to meet their needs. There are also muskox, big horned sheep, woodland caribou, river otters and whooping cranes in the section. There are also grizzly bears and black bears in the area north of the river.
The opening ceremony is 11am Friday, Dec 1, 2023.

I lived in Calgary and they have always been a progressive zoo. They have worked to provide animals with habitats that work for them and provide an educational experience for the public. The polar bears, both orphans, were transferred from Winnipeg, the Assiniboine Park Zoo. I grew up there, so Assiniboine Park is dear to my heart.  Both places are working hard to educate the public about environmental issues. I think I might need to take a trip to visit both zoos.
So much good work has been done since I was last there.
