Animals are very clever at adapting to their environment. They do all kinds of things to survive. Winter can be pretty hard to handle, so animals have found ways to cope. They migrate, they go dormant, they hibernate, they burrow deep, they change their fur and they store food.
Different species use different methods. Birds of course fly south and squirrels store food.

Whatever method they use, animals survive. When food is scarce, the squirrels have supplies of food. Small animals can go into deep hibernation.
They don't wake up until the worst of winter is over. I am with the hibernators. As the cold weather approaches, I would gladly hibernate.
Instead I have to change my fur, I mean my coat. If it is too cold for my winter coat, it is too cold to go out.
