Dr Kwane Stewart was working as a vet at a shelter. He seemed to be euthanizing animals more than helping them. One day he stopped to treat the dog of a homeless man. He was able to help and the dog was so much better. Project Street Vet was born from that encounter with a homeless man and his dog.

Now he holds clinics for homeless people's pets.
His assistant is a veterinary nurse who was already trying to help homeless people and their pets.
Now  Project Street vet has spread and is helping a lot of pets. The work is done free of charge.

This is the help we need right now. Many people are in real financial hardship. They are often homeless, but they love their pet and they don't want to give it up. The pet is all they have to care about in the world. Helping the pet to be well so they can stay together is a real act of kindness.

Dr. Stewart deserves to be CNN's hero of the year. I am sure the prize money will come in handy and make it possible to do even more acts of kindness.
