There are only two female Northern White Rhinos left. The only male died. They do have stored genetic material and there are 30 embryos being stored in liquid nitrogen at two different locations. A successful embryo transfer did take place and the baby was growing. The surrogate mother died from unrelated causes, but there was a healthy looking baby rhino there. They will try again soon. A southern White Rhino will carry the baby. Once born it is hoped the baby can spend time with the two remaining Northern White Rhinos.

They could potentially save the species from extinction. They have been doing IVF in cattle for many years. It is more complicated with Rhinos.
Their size and the length of the pregnancy are challenges. It could work and it could give the Northern White Rhinos a chance to survive.
I hope we hear about a pregnancy soon.
