Full Version: Having a pet may lower the risk of Dementia

They are doing studies and more work is needed, but the results are good. People over fifty, living alone, did show a lower incidence of dementia  if they lived with a pet.

When you live with a pet you talk to them all the time. Of course your verbal skills stay strong. You have to remember things like meals and walks/litter pans.
Pets do things like make us laugh. They let us know that they care so we feel loved. I think it is pretty obvious that pets are good for us when we are older.

My guinea pig makes sure I eat better. He needs a lot of veggies so my frig is full of vegetables and he is willing to share. When I am making his salad plate, I make a salad for myself. Would I do that if I lived alone? Probably not.

Older people with dogs get up and walk them regularly. Would they go for walks daily if they lived alone.

Probably the best thing you can do for your health is to live with a pet.
