I think the picture says it all. If it is sunny this time of year, we can expect 6 more weeks of winter. If it is cloudy we can hope for an early spring, in 6 weeks. Basically, today is the halfway point of winter. We have had 6 weeks of winter so far and there are six weeks to go.
At least we know winter is half over and the days are getting longer. We have gone weeks with very little sunshine and a lot of fog. I wouldn't blame the groundhog if he refused to even wake up.
At least one groundhog didn't want to get up.  It's Friday and it is winter. Do you blame him.

They all agree that there will be an early spring. Even if they are wrong, just knowing that the days are getting longer really helps and a mid winter celebration is always a welcome break.
