There have been a number of cases of US dairy cattle being infected with bird flu. One farm worker has caught the flu from the dairy cows.
So far six states have cases. One possible source of transmission is cattle feed containing ground up chicken waste.

This is reminiscent of the Mad cow outbreaks of 30 years ago. Ground up proteins from other animals was the source of transmission.
The UK and the EU have tightly controlled cattle feed since then.

This leads to the fear and danger that the bird flu will be transmitted to other mammalian species. The danger to humans is greatly increased if the bird flu is transmitted to pigs. Any mutations that come from pig transmission will be more dangerous to us.

I cannot believe they did not learn from the mad cow outbreak!
It is not just that factory farming has serious risks for us. Intentionally feeding cattle other animals has already been proven to be too dangerous.
The infected cows are dairy cattle and they are supposed to dispose of the milk. I hate to even think of how they will do that.

When you find out what they feed the cows, dairy products look a lot less appealing.

I would say, given the standards of feed safety practices, it is not a matter of if pigs get infected, but rather, when will they get infected.
