Scientists studying geckoes have found that they have an auditory sixth sense. They hear/sense vibrations. All ideas about reptile hearing are called into question by this.

Reptiles can hear! Leopard Geckoes can hear a meal worm moving in the sand. I know because I feed leopard geckoes regularly.

Because we tend to judge animals be our own bodies, we see a lack of external ears as a lack of hearing. We admit that dogs have better hearing than us, because they have bigger ears. We don't see any ears on snakes so we tend to think they can't hear. A snake can hear a mouse in the grass. We can't do that.
It is time to rethink what we know about reptiles.
