Calling all people who have a dollar to spare! Literally....even one dollar (plus as many 'shares') from lots of people will help D'Artagnan get surgery for a perineal hernia.

I checked out this fundraising appeal, and it is genuine. D'Artagnan's caretaker is an older, retired person -Jean Lauer from Holiday, Florida. Jean is on a retired person's fixed income, and cannot find the $2000 needed for his surgery. So she opened the Giveforward appeal.

Obviously aware of the many internet scams which deter people from donating, she also supplied D'Artagnan's vet's details on the fundraising page.

"My beloved dog D'artagnan (aka dar), has been diagnosed with a Perineal Hernia and requires surgery. This problem is easily fixable and will have no lasting problems. The surgery will cost approximately $2000. This is why I come to you. I am retired and on a fixed income. I am humbly asking for the gift of a donation in any amount to help defray the cost of Dar's veterinary care. I have arranged with the staff at Advanced Veterinary Hospital, 1334 US 19 North, Holiday, FL to accept the donations directly so that you can rest assured that they are being used appropriately and as stated. You may contact them directly at (727)-938-6879 to make a donation by phone. Dar means everything to me! I will be very appreciative of your help. Thank you and God Bless!"

I informed her of Animal Lovers Web Forum's policy about personal fundraising, and that with the inclusion of those details she could probably post here, but after some harsh rejection from other forums, it may be that she is upset and unsure.

So I am doing it for her.
We may be the only Forum that has thought it through and has found a way to help people in need. It did take us a bit of time and discussion to find a way to post fund raising appeals without compromising our rules.

I hope she is able to raise enough to get the surgery done. I am glad we are able to help.

It must be so hard to have a pet in need and no money to pay the vet.
What a good idea, Tobi, to post here on her behalf. I just went and had a look at the page. It is clearly genuine and deserves support.
Yes, I am glad we have our own way of doing things. I found out about D'Artagnan through another forum I help out on. The post had been banned outright, but fortunately was just scored through, so I could still read it. But it was obviously a genuine cry for help. Many other forums do not have the time to investigate if an appeal is genuine or not, or have a 'blanket ban' policy.
I am glad we have worked out a good way to keep our members and guests safe from scams, but at the same time, made it possible for us to help people and animals in need -often through no fault of their own.
We have always tried to a kind and gentle Forum. We have never let people criticize each other or put each other down. I have always hated banning people unless we had to. I think we have always be fair when we have had to mediate situations.

Finding a way to help people and protect our members at the same time is consistent with who we are.
Posting for someone who needs our help is going that one step further.

This is what I wish the rest of the internet is like.
