Preventable Barn Fires - Ruth - 03-01-2016

This is an article about the amount of senseless barn fires in Canada:

Very clearly written article. I signed the petition mentioned there (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/anna-pippus/preventable-barn-fires-sh_b_9189420.html)

It is also terrible to see the picture of the sows on the petiton page, trapped in their tiny pens for all their lives - and now burnt to death in fear and agony. Those farmers have a lot to answer for!

I didn't see the petition and I just looked for it. Yes, the poor animals trapped like that. Those tiny pens are used all over the world and they should be outlawed!

I didn't realise there was a petition either. I can't get the link to the petition to work. Weird, since I am in Canada and it is a Canadian issue.
Actually barn fires happen all over. It is just the number in one area in such a short time that has brought the subject into the news and kept it there.

When barn fires happen over and over again with terrible loss of life, it is hard to see them as accidents. Clearly barns are not safe places for animals. There is very little fire safety consciousness in the agricultural industry. If a factory had such poor safety records they would be fined and shut down.

I hope this terrible set of tragedies will bring about the change that needs to happen.
