Snakes on the Road - Catherine - 10-16-2016

There is a stretch of road in Sarasota Florida that is covered in Banded Water Snakes. Many of them died, run over by cars.
When reptiles migrate they suffer terrible losses.

One factor is the lowering of water levels in one body of water that would force the snakes to move. No provision was made to help the snakes move safely.  We need to start taking such things into consideration when we do drastic things like changing water levels.  It was part of preparing for a hurricane, but we need to take in the needs of local wildlife when we prepare for things.
It is heartbreaking to see so many dead snakes on the road. They are harmless snakes and they should never have died like that.
