Actually the six new hotels on Queen street are only open for bees. That is right, there are six Bee Hotels newly opened on Queen St W.  The idea is to give our native bees a place to live all summer.

Toronto has declared itself a Bee City and this is just another step towards helping out our bee friends.


There is another type of bee hotel available. They are designed by Environmental designer Joel Anderson of Sustainable.TO Architecture and Building. The design won a prize in the Homegrown design Challenge.

These hotels are know as bee barracks. They are slightly cheaper, but just as nice.

Bees need all the help they can get. Lots of flowers have been planted. Now that we have fed them, the bees need a place to stay. I think the bees in my garden do okay because I am a "messy" gardener. I am hoping that my garden is messy enough for a few bees to camp out in it.
