Orangutan fights bulldozer to save his home - Catherine - 06-12-2018

It is a heartbreaking image that you will never forget seeing. An orangutan with his bare hands tries to fight a bulldozer that is destroying his forest home.
And why is the bulldozer doing this? So they can build another palm oil plantation.

So every time we eat something made with palm oil we should see in our minds the desperate actions of that orangutan.
We are destroying his home so we can have a cheap source of oil even though there are  many other sources of oil we can use that don't destroy habitats.

I grew up on the prairies and we had corn oil, canola oil and sunflower seed oil. We didn't need to bring in oils from the other side of the world at the cost of orangutan lives.  Most of us don't need to use palm oil. There are many sustainable oil sources that can be produced locally.

We can sign the petition and we can check our foods to make sure they are not made with palm oil. We can boycott companies that are involved in the palm oil industry. If all of us who care do what we can it will have an impact.

What a heartbreaking image. And such a brave Soul that Orangutan. But with no hope.

But maybe he has done what the humans cannot do....made the strongest statement and made the world really feel something?

It would take a pretty cold heart to be unmoved by the image. I don't know what happened to him. I doubt it went well for him.
However his image will live on as a symbol of what we are doing to the planet and the animals who share this planet with us.
If he can change hearts then he will have won his fight with the bulldozers. His image will live on, burned into our hearts and minds in a way that words cannot possibly do. He is a brave soul isn't he. I wish him peace wherever he is.
