Mexican Grey Wolf litter born at Phoenix Zoo - Catherine - 06-07-2019

For the first time in 20 years a litter of Mexican Grey wolves has been born at Phoenix Zoo. The zoo is part of a wolf restoration program with US Fish and Wildlife Services.  The goal is to restore the wolves to their native habitat.
The birth of a litter is a very hopeful step.

Many of the big zoos are part of restoration programs. Because of their work species on the brink of extinction can be saved. In some cases a species has definitely been saved. It is early yet, but the birth of a litter than can survive and thrive brings the species a step closer to ultimate survival. I look forward to hearing more about how the wolves are returning to the wild and re-establishing themselves. The grey wolves are too beautiful to be lost.

This is very positive news, and it seems they are doing some very valuable work at that zoo.
I hope it all works out for these Grey Wolves.

There is a lot of hope for these wolves. If the zoo can increase their numbers then they can release some of them to the wild. It is a project that will take many years, but gradually they could spread out into their natural habitat again.
