Dumping of exotic pets is irresponsible - Catherine - 09-13-2019 I found an article about the dumping of exotic pets in the Sarnia area. Who knew they had such a problem out there. Truthfully, there is a problem with pet dumping everywhere. We notice the more exotic pets because they are new victims of dumping. People have been dumping cats and dogs for years. Now instead of a stray cat following you home, it could be a stray bunny or guinea pig. https://thesarniajournal.ca/the-dumping-of-exotic-pets-in-sarnia-cruel-and-illegal/ Many of the pets mentioned could not survive a Canadian winter. The red eared slider turtles can do damage to an ecosystem. I don't know what the Koi would do. They would certainly eat the eggs and hatchlings of other fish and a lot of vegetation. The snakes just wouldn't survive. Why would anyone release a parrot or a tortoise. Both are valuable and certainly could be surrendered to an animal shelter. It is total irresponsibility to dump a pet of any kind. These people should be fined, but sadly are seldom ever caught. |
