Massive farm animal cull in the USA because of pandemic - Catherine - 05-02-2020
The pandemic has cause the closure of some slaughterhouses and many meat packing plants. This has disrupted the usual flow of farm animals from the farm, to the slaughterhouse, to the packing plant, to the store, to the dinner table. Farmers don't want to be stuck with older animals so they are undertaking massive culls.
The bodies of these animals are being discarded as so much junk.

New born pigs are being killed. Calves are being aborted. Milk is being dumped and eggs broken. This is being done even though there will be a food shortage in the future.

It is a messed up situation. Factory farming has altered the lives of chickens so much that farmers can't keep them alive more than a few extra days.
They raise so many pigs and kill them so young. If there is a delay in processing they have to start killing them as newborns if they are going to keep things running the same.
All these animals are dying for nothing. They are not even being used as food. It is a broken system that has finally crashed. Worse, there will be food shortages soon because of this.
I know these animals were going to die anyhow, but the rush to cull them is going to result in cruelty and abuse.
It is a deplorable situation with no good end in sight.

It is a horrible situation. I understand new born chicks are being disposed of as well.
