Endangered tortoise hatching - Catherine - 05-07-2020

Toronto Zoo has hatched its first Madagascar Spider Tortoise. This was no easy job. The egg was laid on October 4, 2019. The zoo has been incubating the egg and monitoring it all this time. It was a complicated business, but when you look at the little baby it was worth it.

The Toronto Zoo does some incredible work to help endangered species, though education and breeding programs.  The zoo is a member of the Turtle Survival Alliance, a group dedicated to turtles.

Turtles have had a hard time at the hands of humans, but there are also many people out there dedicated to helping them.
Hopefully that is enough to save endangered species of turtles. The hatching of even one Madagascar Spider Tortoise is a step in the right direction.
