13 birds you can hear in New York right now - Catherine - 06-02-2020 Because of the pandemic New York City is quiet. There is no traffic and there are no noisy crowds of people all around. Finally birds can be heard singing. In particular there are 13 species that can finally be heard. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/05/31/nyregion/coronavirus-birding-nyc.html I never think of New York City as actually having birds. I am amazed to see  how many birds there are. It is wonderful that they are finally being heard. Maybe these birds are always there and we just never heard them before because we are too noisy.
