Purina Animal Hall of Fame - Catherine - 05-06-2014 Every year Purina honours animal heroes. This year four dogs and a cat were honoured. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/05/05/five_brave_animals_inducted_into_purina_animal_hall_of_fame.html Sadly some of the heroes did not make it, but their names will be remembered. I think it is so good that animal heroes are recognized for their bravery. I am familiar with the North Saskatchewan River and it is cold and fast. Rocky is a very brave dog. Dogs do not normally swim in that river. RE: Purina Animal Hall of Fame - Tobi - 05-07-2014 What inspiring stories of bravery. Rocky is a tough dog indeed to swim after those girls in the Saskatchewan river in the depth of winter. I am sad and sorry about the police dog who was fatally wounded in the line of duty. I heard, the other day (somewhere....?) about a dog who had been trained to dial 911 in case of emergencies. And when his caretaker collapsed, the emergency services got a call from a dog! Fortunately they took it seriously, and came to the rescue. (I have NO idea how they managed to train him to do that!!) RE: Purina Animal Hall of Fame - Catherine - 05-07-2014 It is sad that not all the animals could be there. but I am glad they were honoured anyways. I have heard of dogs calling 911. The service dogs are trained to recognize an emergency and to get help. The phones are special(in most cases) and easy for a dog to dial. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2223729/Dorothy-Davidson-North-Carolina-dog-calls-911-saving-injured-owner.html I have heard of other cases. The 911 operators are trained to respond to a dogs bark and send help. |
