Discarded masks can hurt wildlife. - Catherine - 09-15-2020

Many of us are going through a lot of disposable masks these days. How we discard them matters. Animals can become entangled in the strings and ear loops of the masks.  It is important that masks are properly disposed of. The elastic loops must be cut off each mask. It is the only way to protect wildlife from harm.

This is something I never thought of. Animals, especially birds get their feet tangled in the elastic. It  can make life difficult for them and even prove to be fatal.
I have to safely dispose of my masks anyhow. This is just a little thing that takes a few more minutes. Knowing how much is at stake, even when I am tired, I can take the time to cut my strings. If I can do it you can do it.

If you doubt the danger of the masks, I broke my glasses taking off a mask. The mask caught on the arm of the glasses and sent them flying. You can picture what happened.
