Laughter was always thought to be a human trait. However, when animals were studied further, many species haver some form of laughter.
It might sound different, but it is definitely laughter.

I am pretty sure cats laugh. In fact all our pets laugh. Do something stupid in front of a cat and look at its face. It is definitely laughing at you. 
Squirrels definitely laugh at us.

Once we start looking at animals, free of the idea that we are different and superior, we start finding that they are much more than we ever gave them credit for.
We know animals laugh and feel joy and pain and fear. How can we doubt that they are sentient.
