A fair amount of study has been done about why cats love cardboard boxes.
So far no one can say for sure why cats love boxes, they can only say for sure that cats do love cardboard boxes.
The conclusion is that, if your cat loves a box, let your cat have the box.

I don't know what is funnier, cat's obsession with cardboard boxes or our obsession with understanding why they like boxes.
Maybe they do it just to drive us crazy. It would be a very catlike thing to do.
