$200,000 fine for damaging endangered species habitat - Catherine - 01-14-2023

An Ontario man owns some wetland areas bordering on St Clare Lake. He created a dyke system that removed 3 acres of marshland. This impacted Blanding's Turtles, Spotted Turtles and Least Bitterns. These are endangered and threatened species. He was investigated, charged and has been fined 200,000 dollars.

I am glad he was charged and found found guilty. The fine is good. People need to know that endangered species are protected.
The word needs to get out there that you don't mess with turtle habitats.

I hate it when I hear this sort of thing and the day will will come when they wonder why there is diminishing wildlife.

People think so little of just destroying the homes of local wildlife. It is selfish and thoughtless. I hope the fine helps discourage other people from doing the same thing.
