Fate of 1000 trafficked lab monkeys is uncertain - Catherine - 03-21-2023

There are 1000 long tailed macaques being held at Charles River Laboratories. They are believed to have been illegally trafficked from Cambodia.
Imported lab primates are supposed to be farmed, not wild caught. People have been charged in Cambodia.

Now the issue is what happens to the 1000 macaques that are here. Peta is pushing for them to go to a sanctuary. They could live peacefully there.
The other alternatives are euthanasia or return to Cambodia.

If they are returned to Cambodia they will likely be re-trafficked. That is not a good solution.
Killing 1000 macaques that shouldn't even be here  is unthinkable.

A sanctuary is the best solution, but it is not clear that this will happen.
Yet another reason why we need to stop animal testing.

It looks like good news.

It is not certain yet, but there is definitely hope.
