Meet Chonkosaurus - Catherine - 05-15-2023

Chonkosaurus was spotted in the Chicago river, resting on some rusting chains. Chonkosaurus is a very large snapping turtle who appeared to be enjoying some time out of the water is the warm sun.
The name does fit the size. There may be a reason for that size. Maybe Chonkosaurusis a female with eggs who is resting in the sun to warm her eggs up.

That would be very good if Chonkosaurus is pregnant. There was a time when the Chicago River was so polluted it caught fire.
Now it is home to a pregnant snapping turtle. That is real river rehabilitation.
I hope she finds a safe place to lay her eggs.
