The giant Grey Ghost lizard or Tongan Skink lived on the Tongan Islands in the south Pacific. Only two specimens were ever found.
It is a very elusive lizard. It lives in underground burrows and comes out at night. It is hoped that there are still Grey Ghosts alive on some of the more remote islands.

It is possible. Skinks are pretty elusive at the best of times. On a remote island they could live their secretive lives and not be seen for 100 years.
I am hoping they are still there thriving in secret.
