Sei Whales return to Argentine's waters after 100 years - Catherine - 05-15-2024 Because of extensive whaling, Sei Whales have been absent from Argentine's coastal waters for 100 years. The moratorium on whaling has allowed whale populations to begin recovering. It is working and the Sei Whales are back. https://ca.news.yahoo.com/sei-whales-made-comeback-100-200705913.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9uZXdzLmdvb2dsZS5jb20v&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAFoM2ONGSwqrGihlr49tKKdfYGPM6CzDH-O5LukT0UnEcHHQXfejVYRMTYwMEou6tBcH_ZO62AM0xvk3DEIh3PCm-TeEdJ3SNRHNSdUNzAO0FIEy9PBM2A8jG6-axLiAKsHj9LOKrvZvPYf-TcgbqiUNurlGdwCg9S3k--RtbSwk Sei Whales are giant blue grey whales. They migrate around the globe. Now that their numbers are increasing, scientists can track them. One thing that is certain is the need to continue the whaling ban. These whales have taken a long time to build up their numbers and return to their natural range. They need a lot more time to fully recover their numbers. I know Japan is still whaling. That needs to stop and other countries need to renew their commitment to protecting the whales. We don't even fully understand how whales impact the environment. Now we might get a chance to study and understand whales and how they effect the oceans. We need to be very careful and not waste this chance by allowing whaling again. |
