Ball pythons get their name from the fact that they curl up on a tight ball if they get scared.
They like being handled. They are usually very mellow and calm. They are pythons and there is something classy about having a python.
They don't get too big so one person can easily handle them.

If you find it fun to spoil a pet you can get them a fancier water bowl. They like to soak so they will appreciate it. Bigger, better hides are available. You can put your snake in a bigger tank. There are lots of things you can do for a calm, gentle pet with a 20+ life span who happens to be a snake.
If you are thinking of getting a snake, a ball python would be a good place to start.
