Sao Tome and Principe is home to five of the world's seven species of sea turtles. The turtle nests have been watched over and protected as part of the Tato Programme, a conservation program for the coastal areas. The area has the last reproductive colony of Sada Turtles. It is hoped that their numbers can be increased.
