60 year old Geckos found on New Zealand Island - Catherine - 03-29-2025

They have been studying the geckos of New Zealand's Motunau Island since the 1960s. They marked them so they could be identified.
They check them every five years. This time they found Antoinette and Brucie-Baby who are both in their sixties.
Some of the larger species of reptiles have longer life spans, but these are small brown Waitaha Geckos. They are very ordinary looking lizards, but they are also older than some of the researchers studying them.

Who knows how long these Geckos will live. It makes you wonder how old other things around us are.
Since we don't have information on the age of many species around us we might be quite surprised.
