Bald Eagle left blind after lead poisoning - Catherine - 04-18-2025 Zeppelin, the bald eagle was found on the side of the road in December. BC Wildlife Park has been caring for him. Testing confirmed he had lead poisoning. Birds get lead poisoning from eating the carcasses of animals killed with lead ammunition. They have so far saved his life, but Zeppelin is blind. He requires surgery to remove the cataracts on his eyes. He can't be returned to the wild, but he could have a good life at the wildlife park. He could serve as an ambassador to teach about the dangers of lead poisoning for birds of prey. https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/lead-poisoning-left-this-bald-eagle-blind-surgery-could-save-his-sight-and-his-life/ I wish them well with their fundraising. Zeppelin is a beautiful bird who deserve a chance to live. They need to change ammunition so that it can't harm wildlife. Too many birds die of lead poisoning. Zeppelin was lucky enough to be found in time to save him. I am sure there are lead free alternatives. We just have to want to use them. |
