It is Falcon hatching time in the city - Catherine - 05-06-2025

Peregrine Falcons have taken to city life and are doing better than their country cousins. The birds are closely monitored by Falcon Watch. Hamilton, Ontario has a pair of birds that have nested on the Sheraton Hotel. There have been Peregrines nesting there since 1995. This time the pair produced 4 eggs and all 4 have hatched at once. They will be watched and banded as they grow and eventually leave the nest.

It is good to see the Peregrines making a comeback. They were almost destroyed by the pesticide DDT.
Now they are using our tall buildings as nest sites. They still need our help and protection, but they are doing better.
With volunteers watching over them, the survival rate for chicks has increased from 47% to 79%.
It will be interesting to see how the latest grow and thrive. I hope there are more articles about them.
