Texada Island Bear - Catherine - 07-01-2025 A Grizzly Bear with a history of problems swam to Texada Island. The Island is a 30 mile long sliver of land off the west coast of BC. It was a 3 mile swim so he was tired when he got there. Since his arrival there has been a controversy over his presence. Some want him there and some want him gone. Some want him dead. He has been twice relocated because of conflicts with humans. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jun/27/canada-british-columbia-texada-island-grizzly He is not considered a good candidate for relocation by government officials. However local Indigenous groups and the Grizzly Bear Foundation see it differently. A good location for him has been chosen. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/video/news/first-nations-group-proposes-new-solution-to-relocate-bear-on-texada-island/vi-AA1HJ0RL?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=ACTS&cvid=8961704dde1845d59c183ac107c41edc&ei=24 https://grizzlybearfoundation.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoppnlFVdOdwC2aY7qheLwecs25se7McP4uZKxDABCHHhtQI_42F They need to move the bear and they need to move him soon. I don't know what the final outcome will be, but hopefully the right decisions will be made and the right actions taken. As soon as I hear something, I will post it. RE: Texada Island Bear - Catherine - 07-16-2025 Sadly the Texada Island Bear has been shot and killed. https://www.castanet.net/news/BC/561579/Problem-grizzly-shot-and-killed-B-C-conservation-officer-service-says This shouldn't have happened. He could have been relocated to a remote area far away from people. He just wanted to live his life and people have taken away so much of his land. Was it asking too much to just give him a chance.
