California bans cat declawing - Catherine - 10-12-2025
I don't think anyone can really defend declawing anymore. It is known to be a cruel form of mutilation.
California is taking a major step forward by banning declawing. New York was the first state to ban declawing, in 2019.
Sadly the California Veterinary Association is against the ban.

I can't say I think too highly of the California Veterinary Association. Opposing a bill that bans declawing is almost like saying you are pro animal cruelty.
I have witnessed declawing surgery and it is brutal. When the cat woke up it screamed in pain.
So far only New York, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, plus Washington D.C. have banned declawing.
That is barely 10%.
It is hard to believe that we still do such barbaric things to animals.
