Drone images save Humpback Whale - Catherine - 03-04-2026
While flying a drone near Hawaii a Humpback Whale was spotted dragging hundreds of feet of fishing gear.
The photographers notified NOAA who sent a rescue team. It took them five hours, but they removed 251 feet of line and chains and hooks.
The whale swam off looking much better and is likely to survive.

I am glad there are teams out there able to save entangled whales. However, the whale should not have been entangled in the first place.
That is on us. We are the ones discarding fishing gear into the ocean. We need to stop doing this and we need to clean up the gear that is already in the ocean.
I have no idea how we could do that, but it is our responsibility to do something.
