Swan Parade cancelled to reduce stress for the birds. - Catherine - 03-10-2026 For the last thirty years, Stratford Ontario has held a Swan Parade on the first Sunday of April. This is when the swans are brought from their winter quarters back to the lake where they live. They have cancelled the parade to reduce stress on the birds.  https://globalnews.ca/news/11721884/stratford-swan-parade-cancelled/ I am glad they have done this. The parade may have been popular with the people, but with the swans, not so much. We have too many interactions with animals that make us happy, but stress the animals. Did we really think the swans wanted to parade down the street, surrounded by people and even a piper. It is time we evaluated our interactions and ask if the animals really want to be there. I am sure that many times they don't want to be there.
