Elk Island Park, Alberta sends Wood Bison to Alaska - Catherine - 04-17-2026
As part of an effort to restore the bison in North America, 44 young Wood Bison have been transported to Alaska.
This is the fourth transfer of bison. Wood Bison were sent to Alaska in 2008, 2022 and 2024.
It was a long trip on the road, but the animals made it safely.

It has taken years, but gradually the Buffalo are returning to North America.
Herds of Wood Buffalo and Plans Buffalo are being sent to places that are prepared to receive them.
Some of those herds have grown enough to send Bison elsewhere.
It is a slow steady process, but the Buffalo are coming back.
