Large number of reptiles rescued in Ontario - Catherine - 07-06-2026
Someone was keeping a lot of Crocodiles, Alligators and Caimans. They are not legal in Toronto. And they were not well looked after.
The person reached out to Indian River Reptile Zoo for help and even contributed to their costs.
The zoo has a new facility for crocs, gators and caimans. They facility will be open to the public next summer. For now the reptiles are settling in to their new better life.

There is no way anyone can privately maintain that many reptiles like that. They need large swimming areas. They would need special lighting.
I can't even imagine the food costs, if they are going to be fed right.
There are lots of reptiles that are legal in Toronto. A reasonable number could easily be cared for.
Why would anyone put so many animal lives at risk. I am just glad they are in a safe place now.
