Pandemic Puppies now being abandoned

At the start of the pandemic people rushed to adopt dogs. Everyone wanted a puppy to keep them company during the lockdowns.  Now that things are opening up and people are returning to normal life, the puppy no longer fits. The dogs are poorly trained. The owners do not know how to care for them. Some can't afford them.
Whatever the reason, the puppies are being sold and resold until they end up at an animal rescue.  Now the rescues are being overwhelmed by the numbers of dogs being abandoned. The fear is that some animals will be euthanized. Sadly it will be older dogs already at the shelters that will loss out.   
The problem will probably get worse  for the rest of the year.

This is a heartbreaking and predictable situation. All those people were so excited about their new puppies. They couldn't wait to post pictures on social media of cute things their puppy has done. Having a dog is a serious commitment. Instead of posting pictures, they should have been learning how to care for a dog,
not just a puppy, but a dog. Puppies grow up and need care for the rest of their lives.  If a person was not sure how to care for a dog, maybe they should have tried fostering a dog or helping look after a friend's dog.  Now that things are not going well, giving up and abandoning a dog is not a mature option. Getting help from a dog trainer and taking some dog ownership classes should come first. Many other options should be considered first.

At very least these people need to make some serious donations to the shelters and rescues taking the pandemic puppies. They will need the money to care for other people's irresponsible impulse purchases.
