Break-in at an animal shelter
#1
This is a shocking story. The animal shelter in Riverside, California was broken into and vandalized. Two dogs were left dead, one escaped and was hit by a car and a dozen other were missing.

I can't imagine the shock the staff must have felt when they arrived in the morning. What kind of person does something like this. The two dogs they killed were just little dogs, so vulnerable. Who knows what has happened to the missing dogs.
I hope they catch whoever did this. There is a pretty good reward. I am sure someone will have seen something or know something.

It seems another dog was found dead.

The whole thing is so sad. I hope they find the rest of the dogs safe.

Sometimes I despair of the human race. Just when I think maybe we aren't so bad after all (from reading about good things that some folk do) a story like this comes along. It's such a pity that some people act like this.
I often wonder how humanity would react to an outside force (ET for example) that came here and regarded us as a lesser species to treat as they wished. we could hardly cite our record on this planet as a reason to treat us otherwise!!

How awful. my first thought was not "who did it" so much as "why?" Why on earth??

But I guess this is ominous: (quoted from the article)
"But who might have done this? In our world we deal with a lot of angry people," said Welsh, noting that some pet owners may be upset about impound fees or are upset if they are part of an animal cruelty investigation. "In the animal sheltering business, we have a lot of people that don’t like us."

Or could it have been someone who was upset by the common rule in some shelters, that animals are put to sleep simply because of lack of space? Maybe they thought they were 'setting them free'?

It is clear they were not setting them free because there were two dogs killed in the shelter and they were not killed by other dogs. There is also blood on the walls. The person attacked the shelter and some of the dogs escaped.

It was an attack on the shelter. There is no indication that the shelter kills animals. Some of the animals were already adopted and were being picked up soon. One of the dogs that was killed in the shelter had just been brought in and it was micro chipped so there was every expectation that the owner would be contacted the next day.

This was a bizarre attack for no obvious reason. People are pretty shaken by it.

No one really knows why this has happened. I wonder if he was targeting a particular dog. The whole thing makes no sense.
