New animal rights bill for Canada
#1
We have a new animal rights bill in process for Canada. It is a private members bill aimed at modernizing the law.
It is not necessarily welcomed by everyone.

However, it is welcomed by those who are concerned about animals.

It probably doesn't go far enough towards protecting animals, but it would be a good start for a more modern outlook on animal protection. In particular it bans shark finning and the use of dog and cat fur in clothing.
I will keep you posted on how the bill is faring.

This is a wonderful bill, and a good start on animal welfare.

If they can get it to pass it will be a good starting point to build on. Bills can be amended later. Just admitting that we need the bill is important.  I don't know if it will pass or not. It is a private members bill from a member of the governing party.  Sometimes private members bills are a way of passing things so that all parties can vote for them. I hope that is what is happening now.
