May 3 is National Specially-Abled Pets Day. This is the day to celebrate our not quite ordinary pets. With their differences sometimes they are more special than a regular pet. Our specially abled pets sometimes find it hard to do ordinary things like walking, but when they achieve anything it is a bigger victory and they are real heroes.

The day started out as disabled pets day in 2006, but we see things differently now. Our damaged pets are special not disabled

So on this special day I want to look around at the various damaged reptiles I have and remember Pigbert my very specially abled guinea pig who was with me 5 years. Last but not least there is my dear Jake Krinkle Snake. If I put Jake on the floor and he manages to crawl across the room in 15 minutes I am so proud of him. There was a time when he couldn't crawl at all.
baby Jake tied himself in a knot when I first brought him home
He still can't shed without help
From the little brown pile you will notice that he can poop without help now.
He managed to push himself up and out of his tank
He didn't go very far. I wasn't kidding about how long it takes him to crawl.
Jake has grown up to be a very beautiful snake and he is my special boy and I am proud of him.
Anytime he wants to go anywhere I am happy to watch him.
I am glad to learn that in the middle of National Pets week a pet like Jake gets special recognition.
